We’re in the News! MNews Exclusive
Our first project, a documentary, highlights the role of Taiwanese Americans and the Pittsburgh community in Taiwan's democratization from 1960 to 1985. This project showcases the power of immigrant communities in shaping political landscapes and inspires others to recognize the value of community involvement.
This effort is crucial and timely.
In 1971, the United Nations General Assembly passed Resolution 2758 that gave the representation of “China” in the United Nations to the People’s Republic of China.
On the day the General Assembly discussed this resolution in 1971, 11 freedom fighters chained themselves to the gate of the United Nations to advocate for Taiwanese people’s self determination. KITA interviewed one of the protestors, Powen Wang, this summer.
And our interview is featured in MNews today!
This fall, Canada’s House of Commons joined the European Parliament, Dutch parliament, and Australian Senate to reject China’s misinterpretation of United Nations General Assembly Resolution 2758 and state that this resolution does not take any position on Taiwan. In this context, MNews in Taiwan featured KITA’s oral history interview footage of Powen Wang.
We appreciate MNews’ partnership.
This is exactly why we started KITA ⸺ to preserve history through storytelling and share it in a format that the public can access and reuse. Stories need to be heard to be remembered. The fact that MNews used our footage underscored the scarcity of such material and the dire need to preserve history in elders’ voices.
