Collecting Pittsburgh Taiwanese Americans’ Stories
In late September 2024, we co-organized a series of art education and communication workshops.
Families with young children practiced communicating through art creation and storytelling. Participants painted their beloved family dishes and interviewed four elders who arrived in Pittsburgh in the 70s. The elders shared what Pittsburgh was like in the 70s, how they built community as migrant students or young professionals, and the evolution of several Taiwanese and Taiwanese American organizations in Pittsburgh.
KITA isn’t just about an oral history project. We hope our project inspires more people to start reflecting on their roots and the future. This year’s experiments gave us food for thought and a foundation for expanding our events into bilingual ones, incorporating English next year!
Thank you for supporting KITA and being a part of our journey. We appreciate you!
